Squishy Bye
Hi all!
this is a really delayed posting of my Frank Chimero Inspired piece. It’s the Oregon Dog:

The States: Oregon-Front

The States: Oregon-Back
I used the Same colors on the front as well as the back of the Image, with the exception of the grey. The Kitty is actually Pennsylvania, if you turn it onto it’s right side.
I actually really enjoyed this project. It showed me what my artwork and photograps could look like in the real world. Here are the building proposals I have created:

SKY Art Building Proposal 1

PLANT Art Building Proposal 2

ARTPSU Art Building Proposal 3

THE EYE Art Building Concept Proposal
Here are 5 Images I was thinking of using for the ART Building project:

Photo 1
I like the bright colors and the textures of this photo.

Photo #2
This is a photo I took at 30,000 feet

Photo #3
I like the depth of this photo and think it would look like it was going into the building.

Photo 4
It’s the colors in this photo that I think I like the best

Pattern #1
A pattern that I think would look really cool on the building, I like the psychedelic effect it gives.
I will upload more patterns as I make them.

The Process was an interesting one. The pen tool was harder to learn than I expected. However once I learned how it behaved ot became a little easier. However I am still not completely comfortable with it, and I do hope to learn more about it soon.

Oregon Process
My First idea, based on Frank’s “The States”.

Frank Chimero is an Illustrator, graphic designer and writer based in Springfield Missouri
Frank teaches design and typography at Missouri State University. He also frequently contributes his writing and illustrations to Thinking for a Living. Chimero’s fascination with the creative process, curiosity, and visual experience informs all of his work. Each piece is the part of an exploration in finding wit, surprise, honesty and joy in the world around us. For Frank, the work is play, and the play is work. His clients include: The New York Times, Business Week, Starbucks, Fast Company, American Airlines, Edizioni Corraini Press, and Good Magazine.
(Bio from http://www.frankchimero.com/info)
Some examples of his work:
I really love his use of real life objects and how he kind of “funk-a-fies” them. They seem almost 50’s/60’s mod to me, which is an era of design I really liked, but at the same time really seem up to date.
I think I am going to be doing something akin to his “The States” series.
I used an @ symbol in Myriad Pro size 48.

@ Pattern
I really liked the way the symbols fit together. It’s something we see every day but never see it this way.
Pattern 3 is of a number 2 in Blackoak Std size 48.

2 Pattern edited
For pattern 4 I used a Upper case H in OCR A Std in size 48 font.

H Pattern
I really liked the assignment however it was somewhat difficult with a few of them. Most of my patterns were very simple, not very intricate. If I were to do this again in the future I would really like to try and make some more intricate and delicate patterns.
